The Trouble with Truth

Whether you want to be fit, financially responsible, make new friends, get close to God, fix your marriage…any change….the first step is ALWAYS honesty.  How much do you owe?  How much do you weigh?  How many friends do you have and why? Where do you stand before God right now? Unless you have a clear grasp of where you stand, there is no hope of being able to navigate yourself to another place.  Just like when using a map, you first have to find  the red “you are here” dot before you can plan to get to where you want to go.

I think that is why self-deception is the core and worst deceit.   Unaware, you become frustrated because your life isn’t going in the direction you want.  Perhaps it is not even unaware but unwilling to be aware, wandering in the desert of our own making for years or sadly, even a lifetime.

I’m learning that one of the greatest gift you can give yourself (and the world) is honesty.  Truth sheds light into the dark, seemingly intractable spaces of your life so that you can see a way through/over/under the obstacles.

Today, I’m thinking about the things that I am not being honest about….THERE IS SO MUCH….where do I start?

…the trouble with truth is it that once you acknowledge it, it DEMANDS change.
